Welcome to the second installment of the USAT Referee Development Program e-newsletter!
We would like to start this edition off by thanking our referee corp for all of their hard work and dedication during the competition season this year. We would especially like to thank all of you who took time out of your busy lives to referee in Detroit during the 2008 Senior Nationals and Junior Olympics. With your help, we were able to make this year's event more successful than ever! Congratulations to Lois Schoenbrun and Byung Sam Choi who were named outstanding referees for the 2008 Senior Nationals/Junior Olympics held in Detroit!
There have been some changes in staff at the USAT front office, so we would like to take this opportunity to elaborate on those changes and let you know what impact they may have on the Referee Development Program. As most of you already know, we said farewell to Jeanna Mendoza at the start of the summer. She was with us for just about nine and a half years and will be missed. We wish her the best in her new endeavor with USA Fencing. Replacing Jeanna is Amanda Rubin, who has taken over many of Jeanna's responsibilities, including the referee certification program and the management of referee seminars. A native of Colorado, Ms. Rubin has a degree in Sports Management from the University of Utah and has previous experience working with an NGB of the USOC. She and Eddie Yoon will be working together to make a difference with the Referee Development Program. Amanda can be reached either by e-mail at Amanda.Rubin@usa-taekwondo.us or by phone at 719-866-4632. Let's give her a big welcome if you have not done so already, and show her how great it is to be a part of the USA Taekwondo family!
Congratulations to Leon Preston for his nomination to be in Beijing as the United States referee representative during the Olympic Games.
Again, a huge thank you to all of you who have given your time so generously over this year's competition season. We look forward to seeing you all again with the start of the next competition season. Stay tuned to the RDP webpage, as we will keep you posted on the latest developments and activities related to the RDP.
