Men's lightweight Mark Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) earned the fourth world championship medal of his career with a bronze-medal finish on Sunday. Lopez lost his semifinal match, 7-5, to Korea's Joon-tae Kim.

Finweight Luis Reyes (Chatsworth, Calif.) beat Singapore's Jason Tan, 6-5, and will face Taipei's Chia Hsu in the Round of 32.

Middleweight Dalia Avivi (Plantation, Fla.) won by withdrawal over Vietnam's Thi Ha. Her Round of 32 match is against Great Britain's Sarah Stevenson.

Finweight Talina Le (Woodinville, Wash.) lost her opening match to Venezuela's Marilym Perez, 1-0.

Women's bantamweight Danielle Pelham (Bothell, Wash.) has reached the Round of 16. She won her first match over Egypt's Mariem Ahmed by knockout (she was leading 7-0 at the time), and then posted a 12-4 win over the Ivory Coast's Banassa Diomande.

Men's featherweight Steven Lin (Chatham, N.J.) is into the Round of 32 with a superiority win in overtime over Israel's Tom Hovav. His next match is with the Dominican Republic's Jhohanny Bartermi.

Men's bantamweight Brian Gallagher (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) is also into the Round of 32 with a 7-4 win over Germany's Boris Winkler. Gallagher will face Afghanistan's Ziaullah Amal in the Round of 32.

The U.S. team was shut out of the medals on Day 2 of the WTF World Taekwondo Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Women's featherweight Danielle Holmquist (Coral Springs, Fla.) lost her quarterfinal match, 2-0, to Spain's Andrea Rica Taboada.

Men's flyweight James Howe (San Ramon, Calif.) dropped an 11-3 decision to Spain's Joel Gonzalez Bonilla in the Round of 16.

Holmquist defeated Uzbekistan's Dilobar Saidullaeva, 8-1, and then the Netherlands' Deborah Louz, 12-2. Her opponent in the Round of 16 is Senegal's Bineta Diedhiou.

Men's flyweight James Howe (San Ramon, Calif.) advanced to the Round of 32 with a 7-3 win over Uruguay's Mayko Votta. He will now face Iran's Mehdi Ahmadi.

Women's flyweight Victoria Stambaugh (Pasadena, Texas) lost her opening match to Puerto Rico's Dagmar Diaz in sudden death overtime. Both fighters were tied 4-4 at the end of regulation.

Men's welterweight Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) became the first person to win five world championship titles by defeating Spain's Nicolas Garcia Hemme in the finals. The gold-medal match went to overtime, and when neither fighter scored in the extra session the judges awarded Lopez the victory on superiority.

Men's welterweight Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) has reached the finals of the WTF World Taekwondo Championships in Copenhagen, and is now just one victory shy of becoming the first person to win 5 world titles. he will face the winner of Azerbaijan's Rashad Ahmadov and Spain's Nicolas Garcia Hemme.

Men's welterweight Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) has reached medal round and is now two wins away from becoming the first fighter to win five world titles. Lopez won his quarterfinal match over Iran's Farzad Abdolahi by disqualification after Abdolahi incurred eight penalties including a punch to the face that knocked out Lopez's tooth.

Lopez will not get a chance at redemption against Italy's Mauro Sarmiento (who defeated Lopez at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games). Sarmiento lost to Canada's Sebastien Michaud in the quarterfinals, so it will be Lopez vs. Michaud in the semis.

All three U.S. athletes in competition Wednesday have reached the Round of 16 at the WTF World Taekwondo Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Men's welterweight Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) won by withdrawal over Israel's Roman Rusinov and then defeated Poland's Piotr Pazinski, 5-1. His Round of 16 match will be against Serbia's Radomir Samadzic.

Men's heavyweight Jason Neville (Edmond, Okla.) won his first match by withdrawal over Kenya's John Ireri and then defeated Cameroon's Pierre Nyok Nyok, 4-0. He will face Iran's Hossein Tajik in the Round of 16.

Women's welterweight Nia Abdallah (Houston, Texas) defeated Jordan's Shaden Thweib, 2-0, and then won by withdrawal over Tunisia's Khaoula Ben Hamza. She will face the winner of the Nikolina Kursar (Norway) vs. Keyla Pola Avila (Honduras) match in the Round of 16.
